European Parliament Elections

I just heard that a new Eurostat poll found that only 1 in 6 Europeans know there are elections for the European Parliament on June 7th. Here in Denmark, the interest is at an all-time low, and know wonder the interest is so low: there is absolutely NOTHING in the media on the work of the European parliament, and the candidates are quiet as graves.
Perhaps they are all being quieted by the crisis debate, but all the more strange that nobody uses such a forum for a campaign. As people complain so much about lack of transnational democracy, the European Parliament is in fact the only transnational European institution whose members are directly elected from the people, although it does seem that these people, when elected, do not seem to work or do anything useful for the people that elected them, or even less communicate with their electorates.
I would love to have seen the person I voted for at the last European election participate more in EU debates in Denmark, but instead, this person was just not heard from as soon as elected.
Sadly, this is what Euro-parliamentarians seem to do, so it is understandable that people should care less.

I am an interested and committed person, and I will vote, but I have to make an extraordinary effort to actually care.
